Commissioner Chico Rodriguez merits another four years!

I am so honored to have received the endorsement of the San Antonio Express News Editorial Board.

I could not have accomplished all that I have without the wonderful support of my family, friends, and volunteers. We are extremely proud of the campaign we are running and our grassroots efforts. This campaign is about serving the community, making Precinct 1 successful and flourish with job creation, infrastructure improvements, projects, and community based services.

Thank you for all your support and you vote! Please take a moment to read the Editorial Board’s comments on my Precinct 1 race.

“Two incumbent Bexar County commissioners are on the ballot this spring. Only one is being challenged in his bid for re-election.

We recommend the re-election of Precinct 1 Bexar county Commissioner Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez, 55, a former sheriff’s office employee and CPS Energy lineman, to a third term.

While we may not always support his votes on Commissioners Court, Rodriguez has worked diligently in the best interest of his constituents during his eight-year tenure.

Rodriguez has drawn two opponents in the Democratic Primary. They include Ricardo A. Martinez, 63, a social worker who has not done much campaigning.

The other Democratic candidate is Jennifer Ramos, 36, who once showed great promise as a community leader but who has demonstrated a disturbing pattern of questionable behavior during her eight-year political career.

A former Alamo Community College District trustee, Ramos gave up her seat on that board to seek an appointment to City Council in 2008.

She resigned her City Council seat last year, after being re-elected, so she could pursue the county commissioner’s post.

Ramos’ stint on City Council was marred by several troubling actions which included seeking support from her council colleagues for a company associated with her employer.

She also used taxpayer money to pay a friend, who operated a cleaning business, for catering services and filed more than a dozen receipts for reimbursement from both campaign and council members’ business funds.

There is a lone Republican candidate, Jose “Joe” Ortiz, seeking the Precinct 1 commissioners post. He will face the winner of the Democratic primary in the November General Election.”

Commissioner Chico Rodriguez and his daughters say ‘Thank you!’

As we approach early voting and the Primary Election Day, I am overwhelmed with gratitude to all my family, friends, and supporters who have stood by me for the past eight years. Last night, I was especially honored to be joined by Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, Tracy Wolff, Irene Elizondo, and Linda Chavez-Thompson for the first ‘Chico for
Women’s Leadership’ fundraiser.

Words can not describe how touching it was to be surrounded by so many women from our community as they celebrated my efforts I have worked for to promote the advancement of women as leaders in our community.

Reflecting back on all that I have been able to accomplish in Precinct 1, I am reminded of all the reasons that have inspired me to run for County Commissioner. The past eight years in office as County Commissioner for Precinct 1, my inspiration is stemmed from my three daughters. I want them to proud of the type of County Commissioner that they have inspired me to be. I want to show them there is plenty of room in our community for women to work and serve as local leaders.

As your County Commissioner, I will continue to find ways to ensure that the quality of life improves in Precinct 1 and that Precinct 1 remains the #1 precinct in Bexar County when it comes to growth, development, job creation, and quality of resident services.

My campaign continues to welcome volunteers to block walk, phone bank, work a poll or give rides to the polls during early voting and on Election Day. Please contact the headquarters at (210) 627-9912 to sign up to volunteer or email my campaign coordinator, Sylvia at sylvia@voteforchico.com

Early voting begins May 14 through May 25, 2012

Election Day is May 29, 2012

It is also never too late to contribute to the campaign. You may do so online by clicking on the “donate today” button or mail

I would like to thank everyone who participated in our celebration for the grand opening of our campaign headquarters. I am extremely humbled by the outpour of love and support from so many community members like Larry Romo, Betty Redus, Nancy Martinez, Rev. Joel Ibarra, Luisa Vargas, Dan Barrett, and so many more; too many to name. Thanks also to my family who showed their support.

It was extremely nice to see many of my campaign volunteers take a break from block walking to participate in the grand opening celebration. The valuable role the volunteers play in my campaign is indescribable. Hundreds of phone calls have been made and thousands of doors have been knocked on with the help of effortless and selfless volunteers.

Thank you again for the support shown to this re-election campaign. Please don’t forget early voting begins May 14, 2012 through to May 25, 2012. The Democratic Primary Election Day is on May 29, 2012 and our campaign can use as many volunteers as possible. Please contact the headquarters and volunteer to work a poll, block walk, phone bank, or give rides to the polls.

Commissioner Rodriguez unveils 2012 Fiesta Medal

Comment Print

Today during Commissioner’s Court, I was proud to distribute my 2012 Fiesta Medals to those in attendance. I was asked to share the story behind the design of this year’s medal. I hope you enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed the putting together the design.

Since I took office in 2005 to represent Precinct 1, the design of a unique Fiesta medal has been extremely important to me. Each year, I have selected a different shape and design detail to signify the uniqueness and improved changes each year brings to Precinct 1. The 2012 Fiesta year is my eighth year in office and eighth Fiesta medal. My goal has always been to maintain consistency, as I do in my office. I have continued to use my traditional colors of green and blue because they were selected in my initial messaging when I ran for County Commissioner in 2004. The use of the colors green and blue represent the imagination and inspiration for my then vision which was to grow and develop the Southside.

I selected an inner circular design to represent the life that has been brought out in Precinct 1 with many accomplishments such as: the Mission Reach river project; the re-development and improvements to Mission County Park; the development of the Precinct 1 Satellite office; flood control projects that are improving safety for Precinct 1 neighborhoods; and transportation enhancements like the Potranco Road expansion and Loop 1604 Superstreet that have improved the quality of life for everyone traveling throughout Precinct 1.  The outer circle is meant to represent the potential that exists for my continued vision for the Southside, so I may continue development, improvements, and job creation on the South. The four gold circles on either side of the 2012 year represents each year I have been afforded the privilege to proudly represent Precinct 1. The use of the Texas State Seal symbolizes the theme and motto of Texas which is friendship. The final added touch was to chose to inset the State seal in the center of a five pointed gold star meant to represent the five Spanish Missions in Bexar County; the Alamo, San Jose, San Juan, Concepcion and Espada.

Viva Fiesta!
